In my last blog post (read it here), I talked about where my creative inspiration comes from for my jewelry. As promised, this post will show how I move from an idea to a finished product. This painting was my starting point. I was really interested in the geometric pattern on the yoke of the brunette's dress. I thought it would make a great pendant for a necklace. Here's the sketch I made based off of the painting. I love sketching in this notebook because it's got these great hash marks every 1/4". After sketching, I start measuring, cutting, and shaping the wire. I arranged the pieces in reverse order before soldering. After the preliminary arrangement, I decided to add a black onyx cabochon in a fine silver bezel for added texture and interest. After soldering, I filed, shaped, and polished the piece. Here's the final piece, along with a pair of earrings I think pair nicely with it.
I hope you enjoyed this peek into my creative process. Leave any questions in the comments!
